Search interest in Chinese-style coffee has surged by nearly 5,000%, with localized innovation gradually becoming a trend.
In recent years, more and more products and spaces with Chinese elements have emerged in the coffee field. From brands and bean sources to creative beverages and store designs, coffee's "Chinese flavor" has become increasingly pronounced. Data shows that in the third quarter of this year, searches for "coffee + art" increased by 3,025% year-on-year, searches for "specialty coffee" grew by 207%, and search interest in "Chinese-style coffee" surged by 4,713% year-on-year. Behind this phenomenon is not only the rise of local coffee brands and the improvement in the quality of Yunnan coffee, but also a reflection of the new generation of consumers' preference for national trends and local culture. Coffee shops have narrowed the distance between Chinese people and coffee through traditional tableware, Chinese-style interior design, and innovations with regional ingredients. Although Chinese-style coffee has not yet formed an independent school, its boundary-breaking exploration has already attracted widespread attention. Italian coffee variations are constantly being reinvented, and while lattes and cappuccinos have long been deeply ingrained in people's minds, the niche drink known as Piccolo coffee is rarely mentioned. From the perspective of Front Street, this article explains in detail the preparation parameters and coffee bean selection for Piccolo Latte, and compares it with Flat White, Latte, and Cappuccino in terms of concentration and milk foam texture, helping coffee enthusiasts find the cup that suits their taste. As it spread, it was continually adapted in different countries, also giving rise to classic variations such as the Gibraltar. This article walks you through the origins of the Cortado, its traditional preparation, its evolution across regions, and how it differs from the similar-looking, equally small-cup Piccolo coffee. Global food and beverage giant Nestlé announced on October 4, 2022, the launch of the "Nescafé Plan 2030," committing to invest over 1 billion Swiss francs in the Nescafé Plan by 2030 to secure coffee supply and deepen sustainability efforts. Nestlé had previously pledged that all its coffee would be sustainably sourced by 2025, and now it has set a further goal: for 20% of its coffee to be grown using regenerative agriculture methods by 2025. Given the threats climate change poses to coffee-growing regions, rising global coffee demand, and the poverty of farmers, whether this plan can bring about substantive change across the entire coffee industry chain is worth watching.
