If someone hands you a cup of hot coffee and a cup of iced coffee, you will taste two different flavors. This is because when making coffee, changing the temperature affects how many soluble substances are extracted by the water. Unlike high-temperature hot water, cold brew coffee is black coffee made by mixing room-temperature water with coffee grounds evenly, then putting it in the refrigerator to extract. Since the entire process takes place in a low-temperature environment, the acidic and bitter substances in the coffee are not easily released, so the coffee's taste is more balanced, with less sourness and off-flavors.

So, how should you make a delicious cold brew coffee? Next, Front Street will demonstrate how to make a standard cold brew coffee~

Step 1: First, prepare a cold brew bottle. If you do not have a cold brew bottle, it does not matter. Just find any container large enough or any clean cup, and then prepare plastic wrap for sealing.

Step 2: Choose a coffee bean you like and grind it. For making cold brew coffee, Front Street Costa Rica Mozart was used. This is a bean with multiple flavors such as sweet floral notes, raisins, and orange, and it is suitable for various brewing methods such as moka pot, coffee machine, and pour-over. Everyone can place an order on the Front Street Tmall flagship store or Front Street Taobao store.

Weigh 50g of Front Street Mozart coffee beans, then grind them to the size of fine granulated sugar, corresponding to a 20-mesh sieve passing rate of 82-85%. The grinder used by Front Street is the EK43s, with a corresponding setting of 9. If using a manual hand grinder C40, the grind setting is 22. Everyone can adjust according to their own equipment.

Step 3: Pour the ground coffee into the built-in filter of the cold brew pot, and add room-temperature potable water. (This time the ratio used is 1:12, that is, 50g of coffee grounds: 600ml of water. You can adjust according to your preferred strength. Note that the water level should be high enough to submerge the coffee grounds.)

Step 4: Tighten the lid and put it in the refrigerator to chill for 8 hours. (Note: refrigerate! Not freeze!)

Step 5: Take out the coffee that has been refrigerated for 8 hours and filter it so that it tastes cleaner.

Step 6: After filtering with filter paper, it is ready to drink! It tastes even better with ice added~

How long can made cold brew coffee be stored at most?

Generally speaking, for the sake of flavor experience and health and safety, whether it is ice drip or cold brew, as long as it is an extraction method carried out in a low-temperature environment, Front Street recommends that everyone drink it within 5 days (counting from the production day).

If you operate as in Front Street's previous articles, using warm water to quickly make cold brew, the best-tasting period will be shorter. Because higher water temperature causes a greater release rate of flavor substances, compared with cold brew made with room-temperature water, warm-water cold brew is more likely to breed microorganisms in the refrigerator. Therefore, Front Street believes that within2days is best, so as not to cause intestinal discomfort.
