Illustrated Coffee Brewing Tutorial: Iced Drip Bag and Cold Brew

How does coffee brewing work with drip bag coffee?

A drip bag coffee pouch brews a single cup without a dripper or scale. Tear the seal, hang the bag on a 200ml cup, wet the grounds with about 25g of hot water, then pour to a total of 110g for a 1:11 ratio. After the liquid drips through, pour it over ice for iced coffee.

Cold brew uses the same pouch differently. Empty the grounds into a lidded cup, add 100g of room-temperature water, seal, and refrigerate for about 8 hours. The drip bag filter is then hung over a second cup to strain the grounds. This slow, low-temperature coffee extraction produces a fuller body than the hot method.

As coffee gradually becomes a part of people's lives, many office workers probably want to enjoy a good cup of coffee to recharge during their busy workday, and drip bag coffee is a great choice. Here, Front Street Coffee will show you how to make iced drip bag coffee and how to use drip bags to make cold brew.

Prepare a pack of drip bag coffee, some ice cubes, and a cup of about 200ml, and we can start brewing our iced drip bag coffee~

Image

Step 1: Tear open the drip bag's seal and hang the drip bag on the rim of the cup.

Image

Step 2: Pour in a small amount of hot water, just enough to slightly wet the coffee grounds. (Front Street Coffee has tested this: the amount of water needed to just barely cover the coffee grounds is 25g. Office drinking water is usually 90°C and can be used directly; if it is freshly boiled hot water, let it sit for one minute after boiling before use.)

Step 3: After the coffee liquid has dripped through, pour in hot water again until it is close to the drip bag opening. (Front Street Coffee has tested this: after pouring this time, the total amount of water added is 110g, meaning the water-to-coffee ratio is 1:11.)

Step 4: After the coffee liquid has finished dripping, remove the drip bag.

Step 5: Pour the coffee liquid into a cup containing a suitable amount of ice cubes, and gently shake to mix so the coffee liquid fully contacts the ice and cools quickly.

You can drink it directly to enjoy the smoothness and richness of cold brew coffee, or add a small amount of ice cubes to slightly dilute the coffee's strength, further enhancing your palate's perception of the flavor and keeping the coffee in the cup at a low temperature range.
