Recently, multiple media outlets including Jimu News reported that a netizen posted a video on social media claiming that a Cotti Coffee store on the campus of Jilin University of Finance and Economics was suddenly vandalized.
From the video circulating online, the area in front of the Cotti Coffee counter in the cafeteria of Jilin University of Finance and Economics was in complete chaos. Tables, chairs, takeaway cups, cash register equipment, receipt printers, and other items in the public area were scattered across the floor. No coffee machine could be seen on the counter, and no coffee shop employees were visible behind the bar. A large area of public facilities in the cafeteria was affected.
According to students who witnessed the scene, the incident occurred around 4 PM on March 24 on the first floor of the campus's Second Cafeteria. At the time, a male student was sitting at a table not far from the Cotti Coffee counter. "He started stomping his feet forcefully and slamming the table, making a very loud noise. After his chopsticks fell to the floor, he stood up, flipped the table over, and went to smash the machines on the coffee shop counter."
The interviewed student told reporters that the smashing of the coffee shop lasted over ten minutes. The student also deliberately threw communal chopsticks forcefully out of the disinfection box. "It was terrifying. The coffee shop employees all hid by the entrance." Witnesses revealed that before the incident, there was a bouquet of flowers on the student's table, and he had been staring at his phone the whole time. It is speculated that he lost emotional control after being rejected in a confession, which led to his sudden outburst of smashing the coffee shop's equipment.
Another video clip showed that the student's sudden outburst startled onlookers, deterring others nearby from approaching. After smashing the Cotti Coffee store, the student walked toward other operating stores on one side of the cafeteria. As he attempted to damage other stores, he was stopped by campus security personnel who had been alerted and was escorted away from the scene. Students said that after the incident, cafeteria staff prevented students from approaching the first floor of the cafeteria.
On March 26, a Jimu News reporter called the cafeteria where the incident occurred. A staff member confirmed that the video circulating online was authentic and stated that the first floor of the cafeteria had resumed normal operations, while the store involved had suspended business for a few days. They said they had no information about the individual involved and did not disclose the reason for the incident.
A staff member at the vandalized Cotti store confirmed to reporters that the store has now suspended operations, with no set date for reopening, and that some facilities inside were damaged. However, the staff member did not disclose the extent of the damage to store equipment or the specific amount of losses. Some netizens claimed that the commercial coffee machine and cash register equipment in the store were destroyed by the individual, speculating that the damage could amount to tens of thousands of yuan.

Subsequently, the reporter called the university's Student Affairs Office. The person who answered identified themselves as a student and said that the relevant college was actively handling the matter, and that an official response would need to come from the university's Publicity Department. The reporter then called the university's publicity department, where the person who answered also identified themselves as a student and said the responsible teacher was temporarily out of the office. On March 27, a staff member of Jilin University of Finance and Economics told Zhengzai News that the man was taken away immediately after the incident and no one was injured.
