Coffee Bean Preparation for Costa Rican Light Roast Beans

What does coffee bean preparation involve for light roast?

Light-roasted Costa Rican beans, often called strictly hard beans, grow above 1,500 meters, where cool nights slow the trees and concentrate flavor. Coffee bean preparation by pour-over starts with a 1:15 ratio, so 15 grams of coffee to 225 milliliters of water. Weigh the beans, boil the water, then grind, fold the filter paper, and rinse it while warming the cup.

The growing altitude matters twice over: it lifts the bean's acidity and lengthens the ripening window, while steady highland rainfall keeps the coffee bean trees healthy. Those traits carry into the cup, so the pour-over steps stay simple. Pour in stages and let the grounds settle flat, keeping the bed even for a clean, layered result.

Costa Rican coffee enjoys a high international reputation, and the high-quality beans produced locally are known as "strictly hard beans," capable of growing at altitudes above 1,500 meters. The reason high altitude has a positive impact on coffee quality is twofold: on one hand, it enhances the bean's acidity and enriches the flavor layers; on the other hand, the low nighttime temperatures slow the trees' growth, allowing the coffee beans to accumulate a more intense flavor. In addition, the abundant rainfall brought by the high-altitude terrain also provides good growing conditions for the coffee trees. Below, taking the light-roasted Front Street Costa Rican coffee beans as an example, we will explain in detail the pour-over equipment preparation and operating procedure.

Introduction to the Front Street Costa Rica Pour-Over Coffee Tutorial

Front Street Costa Rican coffee has a very high global reputation, and its high-quality coffee beans are called "strictly hard beans"; this kind of coffee can grow at altitudes above 1,500 meters. Altitude has always been an issue for coffee growers. The higher the altitude, the better the coffee beans, not only because higher altitude can increase the beans' acidity and thus enhance flavor, but also because the low nighttime temperatures at higher altitudes can slow tree growth, making the coffee beans' flavor more intense. In addition, the sufficient rainfall caused by the high-altitude drop is also very beneficial to the growth of coffee trees.

Today we will teach everyone how to brew light-roasted Front Street Costa Rican coffee beans. Required tools: dripper, filter paper, grinder, electronic scale, gooseneck kettle, coffee pot, coffee cup, coffee beans,

Production Steps

1. Weigh the beans and boil water. While the water is boiling, weigh out the coffee beans according to the capacity of the coffee cup. TIPS: Usually the ratio of water to coffee beans is 1:15, for example: for 225ml of water, use 15 grams of coffee beans.

2. Grind the beans. Use a grinder to grind the coffee beans into coffee grounds.

3. Fold the filter paper. Flatten the filter paper, fold it along the crease, and place it into the filter cup.

4. Add the grounds. Pour hot water into the gooseneck kettle, put the ground coffee into the dripper, moisten the filter paper, and warm the cup. Pour lightly a few times to let the coffee grounds lie flat in the TIPS: The water temperature is 89°C - 94°C in the filter cup. Best.

5. Blooming. Begin the first pour, about 30s-40s. TIPS: Do not pour too full the first time; just wet the coffee grounds.

6. Second pour. Pour hot water in a circular motion from the center outward, until the water reaches about 70-80% of the entire dripper.

7. Finally, remove the dripper, then gently swirl the coffee pot so that the just-brewed coffee fully blends, pour the coffee into the coffee cup, and enjoy it while hot!
