Actually, every time Front Street Coffee mentionsMandheling coffee beans, it always brings up an interesting story about the name of this coffee bean. Some people might think Mandheling is a coffee variety, but that's not the case. Simply put, the word Mandheling is a transliteration of an ethnic group in Indonesia.

And the one who truly establishedMandhelingcoffee was a Japanese person, which is related to the story of how the name came about. According to relevant materials, Front Street Coffee has learned that the origin of the matter was as follows: during World War II, Japan occupied Indonesia. One Japanese soldier drank an incredibly delicious cup of coffee at a local coffee shop and immediately asked the owner what the coffee was called. However, due to the language barrier, the shop owner mistakenly thought he was asking, "Where are you from?" and answered, "Mandheling."

After World War II ended, this Japanese soldier recalled the "Mandheling" he had drunk in Indonesia and asked an Indonesian broker to ship fifteen tons ofMandheling coffee beansto Japan. The result was extremely popular in the Japanese coffee market, and so the name Mandheling has been passed down to this day.

Speaking ofMandhelingcoffee's name origin, one must mention Front Street Coffee's everyday beans. Among the seven everyday beans, there are Ethiopia's Yirgacheffe, Guatemala's Huehuetenango, Brazil, Colombia's Huila, Costa Rica's Tarrazú, Yunnan's small bean, and finally Indonesia's Mandheling. Indonesia is located in Southeast Asia, and its coffee history dates back to 1696, when Dutch coffee farm owners tried to find broader coffee-growing lands. After much exploration, they finally settled on Indonesia's Java Island. Over 30 years, Indonesia established a sufficient foundation in the coffee market. Indonesia's main coffee-producing regions are Java Island, Sulawesi Island, and Sumatra Island, of which 90% is Robusta. However, today, the representative of Indonesian coffee isMandhelingfrom Sumatra. This is actually not a surprising result, because most of the Java coffee initially sold to Europe came from the Sumatra region, and Front Street Mandheling comes from Sumatra. So Sumatra can be said to be Indonesia's important coffee-producing region.

Mandheling coffee beans: larger in size, harder in bean texture, prone to defects during cultivation, and usually require strict manual sorting after harvest. If the control process is not strict enough, it can easily lead to inconsistent quality, and different roasting degrees will also directly affect the taste, making it a single-origin coffee with more controversy.Mandhelinghas a heavy taste, with rich body and a lush yet lively dynamism, not astringent and not sour, with body and bitterness fully expressed. Mandheling coffee beansmay be said to have the ugliest appearance, but coffee enthusiasts say that the uglier the Sumatra coffee beans, the better, richer, and smoother the taste.

If we're talking about good-lookingMandhelingcoffee, Front Street Coffee has Front Street Golden Mandheling coffee beans. Its beans are plump, full, and uniform, with almost no defective beans. Why are its beans so much better-looking compared to ordinaryMandheling? This brings us to PWN. PWN is actually the abbreviation of a company called Pwani Coffee Company. This company is a very famous coffee purchasing company in Indonesia, mainly purchasingMandhelingcoffee. Indonesia's best producing regions have almost all been bought up by it, so most of the beans that come out of PWN are unique specialty beans. And Front StreetGolden Mandhelingis a product produced by this company. After the green beans are purchased, they undergo multiple rounds of manual hand-sorting to select plump, defect-free beans. Ultimately, only these excellent beans that have gone through layer after layer of selection, like a talent show, can be classified as Golden Mandheling.
