Coffee is an imported product, and everyone drinks coffee for different purposes. Some are enjoying a petit bourgeois lifestyle, some rely on caffeine, and others simply love the taste of coffee. Front Street is here to rundown which coffee the true connoisseurs must drink.
Pour-over coffee is undoubtedly the most popular coffee-making method in the world today. With simple coffee equipment and a straightforward brewing method, you can filter out a cup of sweet and aromatic coffee. Especially now that light roasts are in vogue, pour-over is the most suitable way to make coffee.
Pour-over coffee equipment: pour-over kettle, dripper, filter paper, server, grinder, thermometer, electronic scale. Front Street has calculated that a decent setup costs only about 1,500 yuan, allowing you to enjoy delicious coffee—it's the method most favored by coffee connoisseurs.

Of course, connoisseurs are also very particular about coffee beans. The beans used for pour-over are basically single-origin coffee beans, which are of very high quality. Front Street here recommends a few popular coffee beans for your reference.
A. Front Street Yirgacheffe Coffee Beans
Front Street Yirgacheffe coffee beans are the introductory beans for many friends. Among the friends I've met at Front Street, quite a few started with Front Street Yirgacheffe. Yirgacheffe is a very famous coffee-producing region in Ethiopia. The coffee beans produced here present flavors of white floral notes, citrus acidity, and a green tea finish. Many people describe it as, "I never imagined coffee could taste like this—it's truly eye-opening!"

In Front Street's bean list, there are three highly representative Yirgacheffe coffee beans: Front Street Yirgacheffe Red Cherry, Front Street Yirgacheffe Gutingting, and Front Street Washed Yirgacheffe. Front Street Red Cherry coffee beans are G1 grade coffee processed using the natural method, very sweet with berry flavors and rich layers. Front Street Yirgacheffe Gutingting is a high-quality washed Yirgacheffe coffee bean produced by the Gutingting Cooperative, with very high cleanliness, bright citrus acidity, and a faint floral aroma, importantly with a perceptible honey sweetness.

There is also Front Street Washed Yirgacheffe coffee beans, which are G2 grade. Although the grade is not as high as the previous two, the price is really attractive—at Front Street it sells for only 25 yuan per bag. If you are familiar with Ethiopia's green bean grading system, you know that Ethiopian grades are based on defect count: G1 allows no more than 3 defects in 300g of green beans, while G2 allows no more than 12 defects in 300g. During roasting, the roaster will remove defective beans both before and after roasting, so the difference between G1 and G2 is not very significant.

B. Front Street Hacienda La Esmeralda Geisha Coffee Beans
Geisha coffee beans are now very famous, and the most authentic and best-tasting Front Street Geisha coffee beans come from Hacienda La Esmeralda in Panama. Why is that? It's not that Hacienda La Esmeralda is the birthplace of Geisha, but rather that Hacienda La Esmeralda was the "talent scout" who recognized Geisha as a "thoroughbred."

Geisha coffee beans were sampled from Geisha Mountain in Ethiopia by botanists in 1931. They then traveled through Kenya, Tanzania, and Costa Rica before arriving in Panama. After Hacienda La Esmeralda processed them separately, Geisha won the BOP championship in 2004.
Hacienda La Esmeralda's Geisha product line is divided into Red Label and Green Label. The Red Label's official name is "Esmeralda Special." To put it simply, the Esmeralda Special series is the highest-quality Geisha coffee beans sold by Hacienda La Esmeralda, grown at elevations of 1,600-1,800 meters in specific plots, with each lot required to cup at over 90 points. This series typically comes from the Jaramillo and Cañas Verdes sub-estates (the Veil Estate has also produced Red Label series, though that estate's plots are mainly for exploring commercial viability and grow many coffee varieties). It is the best Geisha from Hacienda La Esmeralda.

The Green Label's official name is "Private Collection." Do not interpret this bean based on the Chinese meaning—it is merely the name of a product series. According to Hacienda La Esmeralda's description of this series, it can be roughly understood as follows: unlike the Red Label, this series does not emphasize specific plots but rather highlights the signature flavor of Hacienda La Esmeralda's high-altitude Geisha coffee. This series is a blend of lots from various specific plots. (In fact, the Green Label can roughly be understood as a Red Label without plot separation.) Overall, it is a very cost-effective Geisha coffee.

C. Front Street Sherry Coffee Beans
Coffee with an alcoholic note sounds very appealing. One of Front Street's most popular coffee beans is Front Street Honduras Sherry. This coffee bean is processed using Sherry whisky oak barrels, giving the brewed coffee a rich sherry wine aroma and vanilla cream flavor. It is a coffee bean with a unique flavor.

D.Front Street Blue Mountain Coffee Beans
The name Front Street Blue Mountain No. 1 is surely familiar to everyone. As a representative of premium coffee beans from the last century, Front Street Blue Mountain has always maintained high quality. That mellow, clean mouthfeel with the ultimate balance of acidity, sweetness, and bitterness—calling it the "King of Coffee" is not an exaggeration at all. Even now, when introducing Front Street Blue Mountain coffee, Front Street jokingly says, "If you want to know what coffee tastes like, then try a cup of Blue Mountain coffee!"

E. Front Street Kenya AA Coffee Beans
Front Street Kenya coffee's acidity is very substantial and full-bodied. This is inseparable from Kenya's coffee cultivation management level. In terms of coffee varieties, Kenya selected the flavorful SL28 and SL34 through Scott Laboratories for nationwide cultivation. In terms of processing, the unique Kenyan 72-hour washing process is used. Ordinary washing processes last at most 36 hours, because soaking longer would cause the coffee to develop acetic acid and moldy flavors. However, Kenya's unique washing method actually brings out a substantial dried plum and cherry tomato acidity in the coffee.
Front Street Kenya is graded by green bean size, with the highest grade being AA, meaning green beans of 17-18 screen size. What some merchants write as AAtop or AA+ are actually self-described by merchants and do not represent Kenya's national standard. Front Street's best-selling coffee is Front Street Asalia coffee beans, produced at the Bee Processing Plant in the Nyeri region. Coffee from this processing plant has a distinct cherry tomato flavor and is very representative of Kenyan coffee.

F. Front Street Brazil Queen's Estate Yellow Bourbon
Queen's Estate can be described as having won countless awards, and in 2011 it even won the COE Cup of Excellence championship. The estate mainly grows specialty Bourbon coffee varieties, among which Yellow Bourbon is Queen's Estate's "masterpiece."
If you are a beginner just getting into freshly ground pour-over coffee, then this bean is very suitable for practicing brewing. Front Street roasts this bean to a medium roast level. Compared to brewing some light-roast coffee beans, this one offers a better experience. Moreover, it very easily brews out a sugarcane-like sweetness, while the coffee overall leans toward chocolate and creamy peanut flavors, making it easy for those just starting out with coffee to accept its taste.

The reason Front Street recommends this coffee bean is that it not only performs well in pour-over, but even when used in a moka pot, French press, or espresso machine, it delivers good flavor. It is undoubtedly the "jack-of-all-trades" when it comes to value for money.
G. Front Street Costa Rica Blueberry Gummy
In 2019, Front Street brought in a batch of black honey processed coffee beans from巨石 Estate, which received widespread praise. So much so that throughout 2020, many customers came asking if there were any black honey beans from巨石 Estate. And this year,巨石 Estate is back. This year's Front Street Blueberry Gummy is a powerful offering from巨石 Estate, using anaerobic heavy honey processing, presenting very rich blueberry gummy, rose floral, and other distinct and enticing flavors.

This bean is also very friendly to beginners, and you can smell the sweet blueberry aroma during brewing. The only downside might be the slightly higher price.
H. Front Street Panama Butterfly Coffee Beans
Panama Geisha coffee remains a legend in specialty coffee, and of course its price is legendary too. The emergence of Front Street Butterfly allows us to taste the flavor of Panama Geisha at an affordable price.
Front Street Butterfly contains 70% Geisha coffee beans, with the remaining 30% being Caturra and Catuai. This coffee bean offers clean and clear floral notes, along with distinct Geisha flavors of citrus and honey. Calling it the king of value for money is not an overstatement.

These are the coffees that connoisseurs would choose. You can use this as a reference to pick the pour-over coffee beans that suit your taste~
