Front Street believes that as a derivative of Americano, sparkling Americano truly offers a more refreshing experience. Its characteristic is that it does not affect the original coffee flavor of Americano, and it also adds that refreshing sparkling sensation.

Some friends might ask, sparkling Americano is just Americano with some fizz added, how good can it really taste? These sensations are hard to put into words, but when you taste a cup of "dishwater" and a cup of "sparkling dishwater" side by side, you will understand the difference. In terms of ingredients, sparkling Americano is simply Americano with the water replaced by sparkling water; the other brewing parameters are not much different from iced Americano. You can refer to Front Street's parameters: espresso 2 shots (40g), sparkling water 120ml, ice cubes 100g.

Of course, if you are making sparkling Americano yourself, you naturally do not want to make a cup of "dishwater," so choosing the right coffee beans is very important. Front Street suggests choosing coffee beans with more prominent flavors, or those leaning toward fruity notes, so that the extracted espresso combined with sparkling water will taste better.

If you already have single-origin beans at home for pour-over, you can also try using them to extract espresso. As long as the extraction parameters are appropriate, you can still extract a decent espresso. (To help everyone achieve coffee freedom, we have used several beans: Front Street Red Cherry, Front Street Strawberry Candy, Front Street Huakui, and Front Street Panama Geisha. They are all medium-light roasts, and they all perform well as Americano, without sharp acidity or raw astringency.)

If you do not have an espresso machine at home, do not worry, you can also make high-concentration coffee liquid by pour-over. The parameters are somewhat different from regular extraction, and you can also refer to Front Street's parameters:

Dose: 20g
Grind size: 80% passing through a No. 20 sieve
Water temperature: 93°C
Extracted coffee liquid: 80ml

Pour 40ml of water in the first stage, bloom for 2 minutes, then pour 80ml of water in the second stage, wait for the dripping to finish, and obtain 80ml of coffee liquid.

Although sparkling Americano is very similar to Americano, there is one difference: sparkling water contains a sufficient amount of carbon dioxide. If you pour the coffee in directly as usual, then you will probably see something like this:

The crema in the espresso comes into contact with the large amount of carbon dioxide gushing out from the sparkling water, causing the crema to expand rapidly and finally erupt. Then, because the large influx of carbon dioxide makes the crema unstable and quickly collapse, this "lumpy" appearance forms.

Besides looking unattractive, the large amount of crema foam produced tastes bitter and is not pleasant to drink. Moreover, the loss of a large amount of carbon dioxide from the sparkling water makes this cup of sparkling Americano lose its soul. Therefore, the key to making sparkling Americano lies in how to pour in the espresso. For this, Front Street has summarized these two points to note.

The first point is to skim off the crema. The crema of espresso is the soul of espresso itself, but it is not very important for Americano, and for sparkling water it is even more of a nightmare. Skimming off the crema can reduce a lot of bubbling, and at least prevent that thick "lumpy" foam from appearing again.

The second point is that you need to pour the espresso slowly and gently. In fact, the principle is similar to making the layers in dirty coffee. If you pour with too much force, the coffee liquid will rush straight to the bottom, and in that instant, the bubbles in the cup will surge out at the same time, making thick foam likely to appear.

The ideal state is to place a spoon at the rim of the cup, then pour the espresso onto the spoon, thereby reducing the impact caused by the drop. The espresso slowly seeps into the sparkling water, and the foam produced this way is minimal.
