What is coffee drink decoration when the Snoopy topping ships separately?
Starbucks launched Snoopy Cacao Latte and Snoopy Cacao Frappuccino with Peanuts, and the chocolate Snoopy dog arrives in separate packaging rather than sitting on the whipped cream as shown in official images. Customers must place the piece themselves, and some say the result does not match the promotion, while others argue pre-placing it would let it sink or melt.
Store employees say brand presentation standards require the chocolate to be handed over unopened and separate. Since latte means milk coffee, the base drink is a standard cocoa latte or blended frappuccino; the controversy is only about the garnish. Divided reaction has turned a single decoration step into a source of complaints and negative reviews.
Starbucks has teamed up with Peanuts to launch Snoopy limited-edition drinks, and the Cacao Latte and Cacao Frappuccino have attracted many fans eager to try them since launch. However, the chocolate Snoopy peeking out from the whipped cream in the official promotional image is handed to customers in separate packaging at pickup, requiring them to place the decoration themselves. This approach has sparked heated discussion on social media, with some complaining that the actual product doesn't match the promotional image, while others believe that placing it in advance would make it more likely to sink and melt. Store employees stated that according to brand presentation standards, the chocolate must be delivered separately and unopened. With such divided opinions, the decoration of a single drink has unexpectedly become a trigger for complaints and negative reviews.

Recently, Starbucks collaborated with Peanuts to launch a Snoopy co-branded series, drawing a large number of fans to purchase the limited-edition drinks — Snoopy Cacao Latte and Snoopy Cacao Frappuccino.
Based on the official product images, the biggest visual difference between this new release and regular drinks is the addition of a chocolate Snoopy. The little dog wearing a green T-shirt peeks its head out from the top of the whipped cream, making it both fun and perfect for photos.

But when customers picked up their orders with great anticipation, they saw that the drink they received was not like the official promotional photo — there was no trace of Snoopy on top of the whipped cream. Instead, the staff handed them a separately packaged cute little dog. This means that to get a drink exactly matching the product image, customers have to complete the final decoration step themselves.
This presentation method surprised many consumers. They took the chocolate out of the plastic packaging and carefully placed it on top of the whipped cream, but due to an improper angle or technique, the little dog that was supposed to stand on the surface might sink straight into the coffee, leaving no chance to even grab their phone for a quick photo.
Some customers felt that since the official Starbucks photo already shows the chocolate piece as decoration, it should be presented according to the image. Moreover, professional matters should be handled by professionals — staff decorating the drink should produce a better-looking result than customers doing it themselves, and it would also give customers a moment to prepare for a photo.
Additionally, some customers shared photos of the chocolate pieces they received, suggesting that the separately packaged Snoopy might already be "headless" during transport, and that placing the chocolate into the drink in advance might be the only way to ensure it arrives intact.
However, users who received already-decorated drinks had a different view. They believed that if the decorative chocolate were placed on drinks for takeaway in advance, customers might complain to the store upon finding a melted or sunken Snoopy. Furthermore, the position where some employees place the decoration may not match consumer preferences.
From this perspective, it might be better to package the decorative Snoopy separately and let customers DIY it themselves, which actually better suits most people's needs and can reduce store complaints.

In response to the various voices on social media, Starbucks employees stated that whether to include the decoration at presentation is not based on staff mood as netizens speculated. According to the brand's presentation standards, for this limited-edition new drink, whether for dine-in or takeaway, the Snoopy chocolate must be handed to customers separately and unopened, for consumers to decorate themselves.
It's hard to please everyone: some customers, because "the promotional image doesn't match the actual product," concluded that the store failed to present the drink as required and complained that the drink didn't match the description; others felt that employees placing the decorative chocolate in advance was unnecessary, giving the store a bad review because Snoopy "drowned" in the drink. Workers sighed helplessly: "This Snoopy — placing it is wrong, and not placing it is also wrong."
