How did coffee culture demand surprise Manner in Changchun?
Manner Coffee opened its first Changchun location as a three-month pop-up inside MixC, open 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily through February. On opening weekend, on-site orders overwhelmed the store, the mini-program went offline before noon, milk ran out, and some customers waited more than three hours.
The menu matched a regular Manner outlet, covering classic espresso drinks and seasonal limited editions, and only two or three baristas handled ordering, labeling, making and packing. Ticket output outpaced drink production. Local customers say they hope the specialty coffee event leads to a permanent Changchun store.
Manner Coffee has opened its first location in Changchun — a three-month pop-up store in MixC, with operating hours the same as a regular outlet. Opening day fell on a weekend, and on-site orders far exceeded expectations. The mini-program was forced offline due to the order surge, and supplies ran short — even milk sold out. Some customers waited over three hours for their coffee but still felt it was worth it, and hope the pop-up will be converted into a permanent store after the event ends.

Recently, as part of the ice-and-snow season themed events, Manner opened its first pop-up store in the city at Changchun MixC.
Unlike the usual short-term pop-ups, this Manner in Changchun MixC keeps the same operating hours as a regular store, open from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and will run until February next year — a total event period of three months.
As for drinks, the menu is also consistent with regular stores, covering all categories including classic espresso drinks and seasonal limited editions. Since this is the brand's first entry into Changchun, many local consumers began looking forward to it after hearing the news, eager to get a taste on site as soon as possible.
Opening day happened to be a weekend, when many Changchun residents had free time and planned to order ahead on the mini-program before picking up their coffee on site. But when some opened the Manner mini-program during normal business hours in the morning to place an order, they found that before noon, the pop-up store already showed "Resting." A quick check on social media revealed that on-site orders had overwhelmed the store, so it was taken offline from the mini-program and stopped accepting online orders.
According to netizens at the scene, the pop-up store had been flooded with orders since it opened, yet only two to three baristas were on site handling ordering, labeling, making drinks, packing and a whole series of tasks. Although they worked nonstop, the machine kept "spitting out tickets," and the speed of making coffee simply could not keep up with the speed of orders. The drinks on the pickup counter were constantly packed full, waiting for customers to collect them.

Perhaps the opening hype far exceeded expectations, and the brand was not fully prepared. Besides the long wait times widely reported, the order surge also caused a range of on-site supplies to sell out at one point, including takeaway bags, cup lids and some accessories — even milk ran out, making some classic milk-based espresso drinks impossible to prepare and forcing them to be removed from the ordering system. Some netizens who went to buy coffee on Monday morning also found that this Manner still had not restocked its supplies.
Therefore, in order to first finish handling all current orders while maintaining on-site order pickup, the baristas had no choice but to temporarily take the store offline from the mini-program, and only resume accepting orders in the afternoon depending on the situation.
Judging from related posts about this Manner on social media, over the weekend, several time slots on the mini-program showed waits of more than a hundred cups. Many netizens reported that when they ordered, there were still more than 150 cups ahead of them, meaning they would have to wait at least an hour or so to get their drink. Just thinking about it made them hesitant to order — they might as well wait until a weekday when it's less crowded, since there will be plenty of chances in the future.
Those who ordered during the worst of the order surge said they waited a full three hours or more before finally getting their drinks. They felt that although the wait was long, being able to drink the coffee they had been longing for was still worth it, and they hope that after the pop-up event ends, this Manner can officially become a permanent store and become locals' everyday staple.
