Multiple media outlets reported today that Hextar Industries has successfully obtained the franchise rights for Luckin Coffee in Malaysia.
Hextar Industries announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary Global Aroma Sdn Bhd (GASB) has signed a master development and operation agreement with Luckin Coffee Holding Singapore Pte Ltd.
This means GASB has obtained the authorization to develop, open, and operate Luckin Coffee stores in Malaysia under the "Luckin Coffee" brand. According to the announcement, the agreement is valid for 10 years, and Hextar Industries may request two consecutive renewals of 5 years each, with the right to apply for an additional extension of no more than 1 year.
In August this year, foreign media reported that Luckin planned to enter the Malaysian market and was expected to open branches in cooperation with a local listed company. At that time, sources said Luckin was in talks with Berjaya Group (BJ FOOD), which holds the operating rights for Starbucks in Malaysia, to discuss forming a joint venture to enter the local coffee market.
From the outside perspective, Berjaya Group not only has a partnership with Starbucks but also brought McDonald's into Malaysia, possessing extensive experience in operating food and beverage brands. Cooperation with it would help Luckin quickly establish itself locally.
However, unexpectedly, Luckin did not choose the highly favored Berjaya Group, but ultimately decided to team up with Hextar Industries. It is understood that Hextar Group, led by Wang Ziming, has been actively expanding in recent years, extending from its original agrochemical business to fertilizers, energy, industry, real estate, healthcare, technology, and consumer sectors, among others.
Hextar Industries, which has reached cooperation with Luckin, is a listed company under the group, mainly manufacturing and distributing fertilizers, quarry equipment, tents, and lifting solutions, and previously had no experience in operating food and beverage brands.
In this regard, the board of directors of Hextar Industries believes that the new food and beverage business has potential, will bring new revenue sources to the group, and reduce dependence on existing businesses. The company pointed out that after obtaining the authorization to open Luckin Coffee stores nationwide in Malaysia, it will make good use of one of the world's fastest-growing coffee brands to expand rapidly.
Major shareholder Wang Ziming stated in the announcement that cooperation with Luckin will bring new growth opportunities to the group, "This is a strategic investment, and I believe it will bring substantial returns. Our goal is to actively expand nationwide and replicate Luckin's success."

Luckin Coffee CEO Guo Jinyi also stated that opening stores in Malaysia marks an important step in Luckin Coffee's international expansion, "Hextar Industries' financial strength and management experience will help us develop the Malaysian market faster and more effectively."
It is understood that Hextar Industries plans to open multiple Luckin Coffee stores in Malaysia in the first quarter of 2025 and will actively promote the brand's rapid expansion. The franchise fees and initial start-up costs for establishing this business will be covered by a combination of the group's internal funds and bank loans.
