Inside the Blue Bottle Shenzhen Store and Its Blue Hand Drip Coffee Gear

Blue Bottle Coffee has opened its 9th store and its first in South China, located at Shenzhen MixC World. The two-floor space was designed by Hong Kong studio COLLECTIVE around a blue sea theme, with the coffee preparation area on the ground floor and seating above. The opening drew queues of up to two hours, returning to normal the next day.

The Shenzhen branch carries the brand's first globally exclusive limited-edition blue dripper, used and sold only there, which fits hand drip coffee service. Gray-blue tables and seats cast from a new resin material pair with natural wood tones. Rumors also point to possible openings at Chengdu Taikoo Li and Xi'an MixC, though nothing is confirmed yet.

Blue Bottle Coffee has officially announced the opening of its 9th store, located in Shenzhen MixC World, marking the brand's first foray into South China. The new store was designed by the young Hong Kong architecture firm COLLECTIVE, with the concept of "blue imaginations related to the sea," incorporating the character of Shenzhen as a city of the future. The first floor of the store is the coffee preparation area, while the second floor is for customers to enjoy their drinks, with varying shades of blue running through the bar, shelves, staircase, and tables and chairs. Most notably, the store offers the world's first exclusive limited-edition blue dripper, available for use and sale only at the Shenzhen store. On opening day, the queue was once as long as two hours, returning to normal the next day. In addition, rumors suggest that Blue Bottle Coffee may also open locations in Chengdu Taikoo Li and Xi'an MixC, making its expansion pace worth watching.

Yesterday, Blue Bottle Coffee officially announced the opening of its 9th store, located in Shenzhen MixC World, marking the brand's first landing in South China.

The new store's spatial design was entrusted to the young Hong Kong-based architecture team COLLECTIVE, marking the first collaboration between the two parties. Inspired by Shenzhen as a city of the future, the store creates a space of "blue imaginations related to the sea."

Stepping inside, the first floor is the coffee preparation area, while the second floor is for customers to enjoy their drinks. A common impression among many visitors who came to check in was that "blue is everywhere," with varying shades of blue echoing the ocean theme visible in the bar, display shelves, staircase, tables and chairs, and other areas.

It is worth mentioning that to express infinite reveries about the future, the brand for the first time used gray-blue tabletops and seats cast from a new type of resin material in the store, paired with natural wood-colored furniture, complementing the overall cool tones and adding a touch of brightness and warmth to the space.

The biggest difference between the Shenzhen store and Blue Bottle's other existing locations is that it offers the brand's first globally exclusive limited-edition blue dripper, which is used and sold only at the Shenzhen store.

In the public imagination, Blue Bottle's coffee dripper has always been a pure white body paired with the classic logo, and even when collaborating with other brands on limited editions, the dripper's color scheme had never changed. But with this limited-edition dripper, the bottle on it has been changed to white, and the blue symbolizing the ocean has instead become the primary color.

Although yesterday was a weekday, judging from netizens' shares on social platforms, quite a few people lined up early, with some fans making special trips from nearby cities to check in and witness the opening of the first South China store.

On-site consumers reported that after opening, the queue at one point stretched from inside the store to outside, with the total time to buy a cup of coffee taking about one to two hours. By evening, the number of people queuing at the store dropped significantly, and customers' wait times were noticeably shortened, with some users saying they could get their drinks just over ten minutes after ordering.

By today, netizens posted that there was no longer any sign of a queue at the entrance of the new Blue Bottle store, and drinks could be picked up five minutes after ordering.

It is worth noting that customers who joined the queue pointed out that among yesterday's line, besides enthusiasts drawn by reputation, there was also a small number of scalpers mixed in. Some said that when passing by the store, they were asked whether they needed proxy purchasing for coffee, merchandise, and other items, while others said they saw a few scalpers loitering around the store.

When Blue Bottle opened a pop-up store in Shenzhen last year, it was well received by local enthusiasts, with queue times during peak periods of roughly over an hour. At that time, some netizens called on the brand to make the pop-up store permanent, but ultimately this hope was not realized. Therefore, local fans were overjoyed that Blue Bottle chose Shenzhen as its first step after leaving Shanghai.

According to other online rumors, Blue Bottle Coffee may next enter Chengdu Taikoo Li and Xi'an MixC. Currently, the Chengdu Taikoo Li information has relatively high credibility, with a store location already shown on a certain platform. As for what style of stores Blue Bottle Coffee, with its "one store, one design" approach, will bring to other cities and whether it will accelerate its expansion process, we will have to wait and see.
