What Does Recent Milk Tea News Say About What Coffee Is Made Out Of?

On May 6, Yihuo Tang drew two Weibo trending searches: expired and moldy ingredients at some stores, and a 7-centimeter machine part found in a takeaway milk tea in Foshan, Guangdong. The consumer complained through 12315 and received 1,000 yuan in compensation after the merchant first offered 500 yuan.

Knowing what is coffee made out of and what are the ingredients of coffee matters because both drinks rely on clean equipment and fresh inputs. Some Zhengzhou stores were also cited for serious food safety hazards, with an employee quoted saying it is fine as long as the drink does not kill you. Low prices, the reporting argues, cannot shield a brand from supervising its franchise outlets.

Recently, food safety issues in the coffee and milk tea industries have been exposed one after another, leaving many beverage-loving consumers feeling uneasy. On May 6, Yihetang made trending searches due to the use of expired and moldy ingredients, and on the same day it appeared twice on Weibo trending searches—a woman in Foshan, Guangdong, found a 7-centimeter-long machine part in her takeaway milk tea. After complaints and negotiations, Yihetang ultimately compensated the consumer 1,000 yuan. Meanwhile, some Yihetang stores in Zhengzhou were also exposed by the media for serious food safety hazards, with employees even saying, "As long as you don't die from drinking it, it's fine." This series of incidents once again reminds us that low prices cannot be used as a shield for food safety, and brands must take responsibility for supervising their franchise stores.

Cafes and milk tea shops have always been important places for young people's daily socializing. A cup of coffee or a cup of milk tea can often make the whole day feel better. However, recently, food safety incidents related to coffee and milk tea have occurred repeatedly, which is worrisome.

On May 6, Yihetang was exposed for using expired and moldy ingredients, and an employee even said, "As long as the drink doesn't kill you, it's fine," quickly sparking discussion among netizens. Also on that day, Yihetang appeared twice on Weibo trending searches: a woman in Foshan, Guangdong, found a machine part in her Yihetang milk tea.

On May 3, Ms. Xiaoyan in Foshan, Guangdong, bought two cups of Yihetang milk tea through a food delivery platform. Halfway through drinking, she discovered a 7-centimeter-long machine part in the cup, with black stains on its surface.

Ms. Xiaoyan then contacted the merchant. The merchant admitted that the part came from in-store equipment and was a component at the machine's powder outlet. The woman involved said the merchant initially offered 500 yuan in compensation, but she did not accept it. Later, the merchant said the shop had insurance through the food delivery platform and that the consumer should seek compensation from the platform. Ms. Xiaoyan believed the merchant's attitude was poor and suspected it was shirking responsibility, so on May 5 she called 12315 to file a complaint.

On May 6, Yihetang milk tea customer service responded that the matter had been reported to the relevant regional person in charge for handling. On May 7, Red Star News reported that both parties had reached an agreement, and Yihetang compensated the consumer 1,000 yuan.

Food safety issues involving new-style tea drinks are frequently exposed. Even if a brand had a good reputation earlier, it ultimately cannot escape a fall from grace. News about expired and spoiled ingredients and various foreign objects appearing in drinks has become commonplace over the past two years, to the point that consumers gradually forget a brand's previous food hygiene problems and continue to choose to consume.

Some media outlets sent investigators to gain an in-depth understanding of serious food safety problems at some Yihetang stores in Zhengzhou. Faced with food safety hazards in the store that affected consumers' health, store staff not only failed to take them seriously, but instead said, "As long as you don't die from drinking it, it's fine."

After the incident was exposed, the company issued an apology statement and carried out rectification at the stores involved. Although the brand is relatively large and has many franchise stores, making headquarters management somewhat difficult, food safety issues are of vital importance. After collecting franchise fees and other material fees, brands should reasonably bear the responsibility for supervising franchise stores.

The franchise model is like someone paying to rent a brand. Once a franchise store has problems, it will also leave an indelible stain on the brand's image. Illness enters through the mouth, and affordable prices cannot be an excuse for food safety hazards. While bringing consumers enjoyment for their taste buds, food and beverage brands should also pay attention to consumers' health.
