Why Does Yirgacheffe Chelelektu Suit a Light Roast?
Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Chelelektu is a sun-dried lot from the Kochere area, grown at 1,800 to 2,050 meters and rated G1 by the ECX. Its cup carries lavender-like floral aroma with strawberry, orange, and caramel notes, plus bright citrus acidity, low acidity in the mouthfeel sense, and a medium body.
Roughly 500 smallholder farmers supply the cherries, each cultivating under 2 hectares, with Typica and local heirloom varieties. Light roasting preserves the delicate floral and fruit character that darker profiles would flatten; the neighboring areas Gedeb and Worka share similar conditions. G1 is the top ECX grade and reflects clean, consistent green beans.

Front Street Coffee - Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Chelelektu Introduction
Chelelektu is located in the Kochere production area of Yirgacheffe, about eighteen kilometers southwest of Yirgacheffe town. Heading south from Yirgacheffe town, the altitude continues to rise. At a three-way intersection, the right side leads to Chelelektu, while the left side heading southeast reaches Gedeb and Worka.
The coffee cherries here come from about 500 local smallholder coffee farmers in the surrounding area. These farmers cultivate on average less than 2 hectares each, and the coffee trees grow at an altitude of about 1,800 to 2,050 meters. The varieties are mainly a mix of Typica and Heirloom (local native varieties). This lot was rated G1, the highest grade, by the ECX (Ethiopian Commodity Exchange). Whether in terms of green bean appearance, consistency, freshness, or dry aroma and flavor, it performs outstandingly. The aroma layers are especially rich, with the elegant floral notes characteristic of the Yirgacheffe region, like a perfume-like fragrance, accompanied by the bright fruit acidity of citrus, and lemon, berry, and honey-like sweet and tart notes. This flavor comes not only from the quality of the beans themselves but also from the choice of light roasting. Only light roasting can fully bring out its characteristics.

The thickness of the coffee cherries stacked on the raised beds is properly controlled, and materials with different breathability are selected as the base layer of the drying beds according to different drying stages; during the drying period, a large amount of manpower is devoted to manually removing defective beans and unripe beans. At the same time, the raised beds are movable and can adjust the sun-drying operation according to changes in sunlight and weather. After 15-21 days of continuous and meticulous care, charming and evenly colored dried cherries are finally obtained, bringing a high-altitude refreshing jasmine aroma and rich fruit flavor.)
