What Makes the Cliff Cafe a New Coffee Culture Landmark?

A cliff cafe opened on October 1 in Gushi Village, Lianjiang, Fuzhou, facing the Matsu Islands across the sea. Built jointly by teams from Fujian and Taiwan, it combines outdoor rock climbing with coffee, letting visitors drink coffee while looking out at the Matsu scenery. It became a popular check-in spot during the National Day holiday.

Rock climbing in Gushi Village gained attention after Wang Yibo's documentary. The site is the closest point on the Chinese mainland to Matsu, and the cafe sits within the Matsu Bay Coastal Tourism Area. Its cross-strait collaboration adds a cultural layer to the coffee culture experience, drawing visitors from various places.

Since the broadcast of Wang Yibo's documentary "Exploring the Secret Realm," rock climbing in Gushi Village, Lianjiang, Fuzhou has quickly become popular. Nowadays, while experiencing cliff climbing, visitors can also stop by a café built on the cliff, savoring aromatic coffee while gazing at the sea view of the Matsu Islands. This cliff café, jointly created by teams from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, officially opened on October 1 and has quickly become a new internet-famous landmark in the Matsu Bay Coastal Tourism Area. This article will introduce you to this innovative project that combines outdoor adventure with coffee culture, as well as the story and features behind it.

After the broadcast of Wang Yibo's documentary "Exploring the Secret Realm," rock climbing quickly gained popularity in Gushi Village, Lianjiang, Fuzhou.

It is worth noting that after experiencing rock climbing on the cliffs of Gushi Village, visitors can also stop by the cliff café to check in, savoring the rich aroma of coffee while gazing at the sea. Such a coffee experience is truly unforgettable.

According to Fujian Daily, on October 1, the cliff café, claimed to have the only sea-view location of its kind in the country, officially opened its doors. During the National Day holiday, it became a new internet-famous check-in spot in the Matsu Bay Coastal Tourism Area, attracting visitors from various places.

It is reported that this unique café was jointly built by a cross-strait team from Fujian and Taiwan. The café is located in Gushi Village, facing the Matsu Islands across the sea, and is the closest point on the Chinese mainland to Matsu. Visitors in the cliff café can, on a clear day, gaze out at the scenery of the Matsu Islands.

The name Matsu Islands originates from the main island of Nangan. Historical records state that Lin Moniang, daughter of the Song Dynasty fisherman Lin Yuan, was virtuous and extremely filial in serving her parents. On dark nights, she would always burn firewood to guide fishing boats, earning deep admiration from the villagers.

One day, her father went out to fish and tragically encountered a storm and died. Moniang, overwhelmed with grief, threw herself into the sea to find her father, and her body drifted to Nangan. The islanders, moved by her filial piety, buried her with honor and built a temple to worship her. During the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, Lin Moniang was conferred the title of Tianhou, and people respectfully called her "Mazu." The island of Nangan thus evolved by homophony into "Matsu."

And facing the Matsu Islands across the sea for generations is precisely Gushi Village in Lianjiang, Fuzhou.

More than two months ago, Arthur, a native of Fujian, came to Lianjiang and discovered that the cliffs of Gushi Village are extremely steep, very suitable for cliff descending and rock climbing activities. After completing a site survey, he came up with the idea of opening a café on the cliff.

"Descending along the rope, drinking coffee, looking across at Matsu, watching the sunrise—this scenery is so beautiful," Arthur said in an interview with reporters.

Subsequently, Arthur planned a series of tourism scenarios on the cliff, combining via ferrata with coffee, bringing the innovative model of outdoor plus coffee to the cliffs. Here, visitors can use equipment to climb onto the suspended platform on the cliff, enjoying the sea breeze while sipping coffee and taking in the unique scenery bestowed by nature.

"After two months of investigation, our team believed that Gushi Village has unique cliff scenery, so we set out to design the 'Cliff Coffee' tourism project that fits the local natural landscape," Xue Ke, founder of the Cliff Coffee project, told a Fujian Daily reporter.

It is understood that the café's signature coffee is currently named "Pine on the Cliff," with a perfectly balanced roast, rich aroma, mellow taste, and a subtle fruity note. The average spending on coffee per person in the café is about 25 yuan, which is fairly reasonable for a tourist attraction.

It is worth mentioning that the coffee here is destined to perfectly combine with adventure. After challenging the cliffs, customers can relax with a cup of hot coffee. Whether sharing with friends or enjoying alone, it leaves unforgettable memories.

Currently, the cliff café, as the "village café" of Gushi Village, has a total investment of nearly 1.5 million yuan and covers an area of 30,000 square meters. In addition to the café, it also offers other services such as via ferrata, SRT rope descent training, zipline activities, and rock climbing training.

In addition, the entire Cliff Coffee project has a coaching team of 8 people, all of whom are special-duty personnel holding qualifications such as mountain rescue certificates and high-altitude work permits.
