How do bean choice and grind size shape AeroPress coffee brewing?
AeroPress iced coffee depends on three things: fresh beans, the right grind size, and controlled extraction time. The brewer combines immersion, paper filtration and gentle pressure. A washed Yirgacheffe works well because its floral aroma and bright acidity soften over ice while the fruit notes and juice-like body stay intact.
Start with 15 to 16 grams of coffee at a medium-fine grind, add hot water and stir, then press slowly over ice. Honey-processed beans such as Costa Rica Musician Series give balanced acidity and sweetness, while natural-process beans push sweetness higher. Keeping the ratio and time constant is what makes the cup repeatable, whether coffee brewing is done by hand or with a machine.
In the height of summer, iced coffee becomes the daily first choice for many coffee lovers. Making a satisfying AeroPress iced coffee actually involves quite a few factors—the freshness of the coffee beans, the precision of the grind size, and the control of extraction time; every step affects the final flavor performance. This article takes Front Street washed Yirgacheffe as an example, starting from the logic of bean selection, and breaks down in detail the production process and core parameters of AeroPress iced coffee, including grind size, coffee-to-water ratio, water temperature, and operating steps, to help you consistently recreate a cup of iced coffee with rich floral aromas and abundant juice-like qualities at home.

In the scorching summer, iced coffee is almost a necessity for every coffee lover. Quite a few friends have come to ask Front Street how to make iced coffee taste good. Today Front Street will share its own experience on this. In fact, the quality of iced coffee is affected by many factors: the coffee beans must be fresh enough, the grind size must be appropriate, and the extraction time must be controlled accurately. None of these steps can be missing. This time Front Street selected a washed Yirgacheffe and used an AeroPress for a demonstration. The reason for choosing Front Street washed Yirgacheffe is that it itself has elegant floral aromas, a clean body, and bright acidity. After being made into iced coffee with an AeroPress, Front Street Yirgacheffe's acidity becomes softer and more delicate, while the floral and fruity aromas are retained, and it gains an extra layer of rich juice-like texture—it is simply perfect for this.
What exactly is an AeroPress?
Structurally, the AeroPress can be broken down into three core parts: the chamber, the filter cap, and the plunger. It cleverly combines the immersion extraction of a French press, the paper filtration of pour-over coffee, and the pressure extraction of an espresso machine. The operating principle is not complicated: after mixing and stirring the coffee grounds and hot water, pressure is applied with the plunger, forcing air downward through the filter cap, thereby extracting a clean and pure coffee liquid.
Bean selection: balanced acidity and sweetness: honey process, such as Front Street Costa Rica Musician Series; high sweetness: natural process, such as Front Street Natural Huakui; high body: Front Street Lintong Mandheling, Front Street Golden Mandheling; bright acidity: washed process, such as Front Street Kenya Little Tomato

Brewing sharing
The overall approach is this: first use the AeroPress to extract a coffee liquid with relatively high strength and extraction yield, then cool and dilute it by adding hard ice cubes, and finally adjust it to a concentration that suits your own taste. Therefore, the grind size needs to be finer, the water temperature should be higher, and the coffee-to-water ratio should also be increased accordingly.
The coffee beans used this time come from Front Street Coffee (FrontStreet Coffee)'s bean list: Front Street Yirgacheffe Washed Kochere. The specific information is as follows:
Region: Yirgacheffe Kochere
Altitude: 1800-2200m
Variety: local heirloom
Processing method: washed
Flavor: lemon, black tea, orange blossom
Brewing parameters
Dose: 20g
Coffee-to-water ratio 1:9
Grind: espresso grind (flour-like)
Water temperature: 92°C
Time: 1 minute 30 seconds
Brewing process
1. Remove the filter cap, install an AeroPress-specific paper filter, first wet the paper filter with hot water so it adheres tightly to the filter cap.
2. Place the AeroPress upside down, pour 20 grams of ground coffee into the chamber, then pour in 180 grams of 92°C hot water, and start timing at the same time.

3. After pouring the water, gently stir with a stirrer for 50 seconds. Then put on the filter cap and push upward to expel excess air.
4. Flip the AeroPress over so the paper filter and filter cap face down and the coffee grounds face up, apply downward force to press and extract, completing the press in about 30 seconds. At this point there is about 150ml of high-strength coffee liquid in the chamber. The entire extraction process totals 1 minute 30 seconds.
5. Pour the coffee liquid into 120 grams of hard ice cubes, using the ice cubes to cool and dilute the coffee liquid. The amount of ice cubes can be flexibly increased or decreased according to personal taste.
6. Gently shake the chamber to make the concentration and temperature evenly distributed, then it is ready to enjoy. After dilution with ice, you can clearly feel an icy lemon-like refreshingness, citrus acidity, a clean and crisp mouthfeel, and the sweetness of black tea emerging in the middle, making the whole experience very comfortable.
